Rockin’ Robin
There's just something peaceful about robins. I heard some pleasant singing outside yesterday evening and followed it out to our front yard. There I discovered this mighty borb doing a little song and dance number in a tree. https://www.youtube.com/embed/f3320WPQ4YQ A...
Feathers Day
Last week, my wife and I visited her parents in Fremont to celebrate Father's Day. After several days of temperatures reaching up to 108°F in Sonoma, it was nice to enjoy some cooler (or perhaps more accurately, "less deathly hot") weather by the Bay. My green-thumbed...
Wine Country
I have discovered that living in Wine Country is . . . . . . DOVE-VINE. (Ba dum tss! ) Eurasian Collared-Dove in Sonoma Valley, California Its friend was in a nearby oak tree and posed for me as well. I tried my best to photograph the dove's true essence. I'm not sure...
Smiling Titmouse
Usually when I ask birds to smile for the camera, they ignore me, but bless him (or her), this little oak titmouse actually tried. I hope its beak is OK. 🙂
Egrets, Swallows, & the Cult of Hello Kitty
Spent part of a sunny Saturday afternoon at the Alameda Creek near the Niles Staging Area. I'm surprised there is any creek left considering it has hardly rained at all this past year. There were a few ducks and a large number of Canadian geese swimming in the water,...
Hey, Am I Being Mocked?
I saw this little creature today in front of our house. I'm struggling with an ID though. Is this a hummingbird, or some kind of . . . . . . mocking bird? Sometimes birdwatchers get no respect. Sigh. ?
L’Chaim!
I was at first going to title this morning’s woodpecker photo as “Sunday Service at our local Church of the Holey Telephone Pole.” But then I noticed the yarmulkes. Duh! OBVIOUSLY these birds are Jewish. So . . . L’CHAIM! ? (Coincidentally, my grandfather was both...
Masked
Spotted this fledgling Scrub Jay in our front yard this evening. Too young to be vaccinated, so it’s still wearing a mask outside. Smart bird!
Happy Humm Day!
We've found that few things grow more happily in our yard than salvias, especially in the spring and summer sun of Sonoma. Thankfully, the hummingbirds are happy with this. So today's life lesson: On the road of life, don't forget to stop and sip the salvias.
May Showers
Every year it seems summer comes earlier and earlier. And according to climate change research, that's likely what is happening. Apparently, by the end of the century, summer could be six months long! Meanwhile, today in Sonoma, after coming close several times over...
