May Showers

Every year it seems summer comes earlier and earlier. And according to climate change research, that’s likely what is happening. Apparently, by the end of the century, summer could be six months long! Meanwhile, today in Sonoma, after coming close several times over the last couple of weeks, it finally hit 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Living in a house without air conditioning, I am not particularly looking forward to the actual summer. Not to mention it’s been super dry this last “rainy season, and drought conditions are as bad as they’ve ever been. There is already a Red Flag Warning in effect here for this weekend, and it’s only early May. I sadly expect California’s fire season will last twelve months a year by the end of the century.

I turned on our drip-and-sprinkler system today for a few minutes to try to give some of our plants a sip to drink in the heat. And a California Scub Jay fledgling decided to stop by for a drink and a shower.

At least somebody knows how to stay cool!
